Mathematics in Pavement Design

Mathematics in Pavement Design

Sharing knowledge is central to the philosophy of the PAVERS Team!

The PAVERS Team draws on some 75 year pooled experience of pavement design and non-destructive techniques. When we get involved in a project, we thoroughly train our client in using and understanding all features of the evaluation methodology. Besides that The PAVERS Team transfers its experience by means of training courses, presentations and publications, and via participation in national and international working groups. A short training course on pavement models and theories can be organised.

Dr. Frans Van Cauwelaert’s rigorous mathematical models are the core of the Pavers ® program. Frans, member of our PAVERS team wrote an unique textbook on the required mathematics used in pavement design and evaluation. The book is intended for Civil Engineers and more specific for Pavement Engineers. With consent of The Federation of the Belgium Cement Industry (Febelcem), we proudly present his book on the website.

Engineers working in the field of advanced pavement engineering must read this excellent textbook on pavement design and evaluation. The primary objective of the textbook is to introduce the basic principles that are required when dealing with flexible and rigid pavements. Secondly, the book presents the theories of advanced mathematics of accepted methods in pavement design and evaluation, as may be used by students, designers, engineering consultants, highway and airport agencies and researchers and lecturers at Universities. Also, new concepts developed in recent years are explained.

The book is divided in two parts.
The first part covers the mathematics required to solve most of the theoretical problems related to pavement engineering. The second part is concerned with practical solutions as faced by Pavement Engineers in the assessment of rigid and flexible pavements.
